How the count works
Every date from the start to the end is examined once. A date is a working day unless it falls on the country's weekend or on a nationwide public holiday. Regional holidays are left in, because a national figure that shifted with local calendars would be wrong everywhere rather than right somewhere.
Both endpoints are included. A range that starts and ends on the same working day therefore counts as one day, which is the convention used in most contractual notice periods. If your contract counts from the day after the trigger event, use add business days instead and start from that date.
Where this differs from a payroll system
Payroll and leave systems usually apply company specific rules on top of the national calendar: shutdown periods, substitute days for holidays that fall on a weekend, part time patterns and regional entitlements. This calculator answers the national question only. Treat it as the baseline the local rules are applied to, not as the final figure.
