Reading these figures
The working day count treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, which is the standard working week in Greece. Only nationwide holidays are deducted; a date observed in one region alone still counts as a working day here, because a national figure that moved with regional calendars would describe nobody accurately.

Notes on Greece
The Greek calendar moves with Orthodox Easter, which is calculated on the Julian rule and usually
falls on a different Sunday from Western Easter, sometimes by as much as five weeks. Clean Monday
at the start of Lent and Holy Spirit Monday afterwards both move with it, so three of the year's
dates shift together and can land in different months from one year to the next.
Greek law also distinguishes between mandatory and optional holidays. Some dates are compulsory
non-working days, while others are observed at the employer's discretion or under a sector
agreement. The figures here treat the nationwide dates uniformly, which will overstate time off
in parts of the private sector.
